Hollywood Layered

Artist Statement July 2022

Working as a design and event photographer for more than two decades for the insanely talented event designer Billy Butchkavitz, I always tried to find a way to showcase the party with only one image.
That, of course, is impossible with a regular photograph.
Over the years I played and experimented with a lot of techniques to find a way to combine multiple images to give the viewer a better feel of that event. But only after I centered the party around a person, seemingly in the middle of all action, party and design, did I create a sense of dynamic, depth, and scale.
The observed being also the observer in creating a visual connection with the viewer. This allows the viewer a more guided introduction into the onslaught of colors and shapes and action.
Hollywood Layered is supposed to be a very playful series of images showing these hugely over the top parties few people are able to witness in person. And it also shows how lost and involuntarily placed these celebrities must feel, since, at least for Hollywoods purposes, they are just another design element, dressed in nice colors.
